Robert Head, native Texan and CEO of Blue Cord Farms, announced recently that he will be offering a course aimed at educating LEO’s titled Introduction to Hemp & Marijuana.
The registration site states,“This training is designed to teach law enforcement officers what cannabis is and how it is used in everyday life. This training will include a description of hemp of hemp products, test results from both hemp and marijuana, and an understanding of how hemp goes from the fields to the customer.Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Identify hemp fibers
2. Understand the difference between hemp and marijuana
3. Discuss the industrial and medical/recreational uses of hemp
4. Estimate the value of varying amounts of hemp products
5. Explain the difference between THC and CBD”
Head has been working diligently since the passage of HB 1325 to help law enforcement understand and identify the difference between hemp, which was legalized nationally by the 2018 Farm Bill passage, and marijuana which is still a schedule one substance by the U.S. Government. The need for education cannot come soon enough for LEO’s in Texas, as the state has inconsistent policies across cities, counties, and branches of government on how to handle possession cases. This will help officers utilize their time more efficiently so that they may spend less time in processing someone for a legal substance and having to appear in court costing more time, money, and resources.
“A buddy I served with, he was one of our medics, became a K9 officer,” told us. “I had always told him that he can come over, but his dog has to stay home. When the new hemp bill passed the K9 units wanted to get some hemp and see if the dogs can tell the difference. I said sure. I showed up and all the officers were asking me questions. Then they asked me to put a course together on what cannabis is. I said sure! Having this industry and law enforcement working together is crucial.”
Head is a Alpha Company 1-6 Infantry (1st Infantry – Old Ironsides) combat veteran that also helps manage a successful medical cannabis farm in Maine.
