Jan 4th, 2020 the Texas Capitol opened to the general public after being closed over the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Texas Capitol had been shut down to the general public since late March. That was when the COVID-19 pandemic began in the United States and Texas. Since then Texas has seen waves of rising cases and deaths from the virus. The capitol is opening again as Austin/Travis County sees an 86% increase of cases since the beginning of December.

The Capitol will be requiring masks while inside. The hours will be from 9 am to 6 pm with the capacity limited to 50%. That includes a count of staff and elected officials. A video of a tour of the capitol under COVID-restrictions is on our Facebook page for viewing.
