HB218 Penalty Reduction scheduled for committee hearing

HB218 by Representative Joe Moody has been scheduled for a hearing in the criminal jurisprudence committee on February 28th.

HB218 would make possession of one ounce or less of marijuana (flower and concentrate) a class c misdemeanor cite and release offense. As well, punishment would be probation unless previously brought in on the same charge. The bill also allows expungement of the charge after a designated period of time for a $30 administrative fee.

This is not the first legislative session to see a similar bill presented by Moody. Previous bills passed the house with a super majority only to see them die when sent to the Senate, or die in the House after Senate modifications.

Those looking to make their voice heard on the topic can do the following:

  1. Too bad for Texas that we have an ELECTED Lt. Gov that refuses to hold Senate votes of Cannabis issues. Gov. Abbott is maybe 1% better than Lt. Dan. BOTH are NOT following the will of the People whom they are representing!
