Texas Senate holds medical cannabis and school funding hostage to ban hemp with SB3

Texas News

The Texas House passed SB3 after being held hostage by Dan Patrick on the topics of both TCUP expansion and school funding.

The battle isn't over just yet, Governor Abbott has to sign it, TCUP still needs its warriors.

The Texas House passed SB3 with its original language late Wednesday night after roughly 3 hours of debate. The Final vote on Thursday was 87-55. Dan Patrick had informed the chamber publicly after some delay that he would not consider HB2, which is $8 billion for school funding, until the house had passed SB3 with a ban on THC consumable products. The House amended the bill twice, with an amendment added to the second amendment being discussed. The second amendment was to take the bill back to it’s original language.  That was amended by Rep Moody of El Paso to reduce the penalty for minors in possession to a class C misdemeanor that would be expungable rather than just sealed.

Rep Vikki Goodwin (D-47) released this stament about SB3. She announceda bid for Lt Gov this week.

The House discussion saw what could be considers either outright lies about cannabis, or discussion that discounted the positions and welfare of many combat veterans.

But the battle for SB3 and HB46 are not over Texas. It is time that we let our Governor know that we are not in agreement with a house that had it’s voice held hostage. That we are in agreement with Rep King on the fact that the House and the State Affairs committee poured hours of hard work into making this a better regulated program. That the House represetned it’s people and that voice should not be overridden by a Lt. Gov looking to get his way. By a Lt. Gov that by his own admission said he would hold the Governors priorites hostage to get his way and force a special session if he could.

It is time that we remind our governor that he has stated that we should be looking at penalty reduction for cannabis, not making the penalties increase. We remind our governor that veterans are not supposed to be a bargaining chip, and that a bill should never be decided on a veteran telling other combat veterans on the House floor what their experiences are. It is time we ask Governor Abbott to take a stance against Patrick and his tyranny of the Texas government.

Abbott can still veto this bill while letting HB2 pass and having a medical expansion

Rep. Brian Harrison (R-10) was the only Republican to vote no on SB3

Greg Abbott has the power to veto SB3 while allowing other items to be passed. Children’s education was held hostage to get a voucher program and now they’re being held hostage against a man that is going to take an $8 billion source of funding and just delete it within 4 months time.

Our governor has the power to show Patrick he needs to stay in his lane and mind his business in the senate.

Here's how you can help!

Below are the two links you need to use to contact your senator and let them know to keep the Medical expansion bill for TCUP either intact or make even more improvments to it. The other is to write to Gov. Abbott and tell him to veto SB3. Because SB3 means stupendously bad of the 3rd degree.
