Texas Veterans Gather in Killeen to Learn About Medical Cannabis

texas veterans medical cannabis conference 2022

Texas Veterans for Medical Marijuana and the Veterans Educating Texas Coalition are proud to announce our Texas Veterans Medical Cannabis Conference 2022 to be held at the Killeen Civic & Conference Center at 3601 S W S Young Drive on April 16, Saturday, 10 am to 3:30 pm.

This event is free and the public is invited. Texas Veterans for Medical Marijuana and the V.E.T. Coalition represent veterans who advocate for a whole plant medical cannabis program in our state. This conference will inform veterans about current medical cannabis issues and initiatives in Texas, including the Texas Compassionate Use Program, which allows qualified patients to legally use cannabis as medicine for conditions such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, cancer, neurological disorders, and many other conditions.

David Bass, founder of Texas Veterans for Medical Marijuana, said, “We are proud that we can have this important conference in our Fort Hood community where so many proud veterans live and work. Many veterans in Texas have discovered that cannabis is excellent medicine for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, chronic pain and many other service connected injuries.

David noted that thanks to the bipartisan support of the Texas legislature, veterans have the opportunity to enroll in the Compassionate Use Program and use cannabis legally for their service connected disabilities. Cannabis is often a viable alternative to opioids, psychotropic medication and other medicine that may be addictive and have harmful side effects.”

These are some of the speakers at the conference.

• Representative Brad Buckley, House District 54, will discuss why he voted to expand the Compassionate Use Program during the 2021 legislative session including adding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as a qualifying condition.

• Mitch Fuller, Chairman of the National Legislative Committee for the Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars, will discuss why the Texas VFW supports a medical cannabis program in Texas.

• Dr. Matthew Brimberry, MD, a Navy veteran, will discuss how cannabis helps Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

• Dr. Wendy Askew, MD, an Air Force Veteran, will discuss hemp derivatives used as medicine, including Delta-8.
